Take a moment to think of all the basic amenities you use on a daily basis: a roof over your head, a clean shower, and a warm bed to lay in every night. Now ask yourself: when’s the last time you were worried you wouldn’t be able to feed yourself or have a place to stay by the end of the night?
For most of us, the answer is never, but the reality is that countless people suffering from poverty and homelessness face these problems every day. For many of these individuals, charitable organizations like The Mustard Seed and The Seeds of Grace make all the difference in the lives of these survivors.
Pledged to make a difference
- The Mustard Seed
Established in Alberta in the 1980’s, The Mustard Seed is an organization dedicated to providing support and resources to low-income individuals and families. With operations in both Calgary and Edmonton, The Mustard Seed aims to uplift those in need by providing meals, employment programs, shelter, and companionship.
- The Seeds of Grace
Founded in 2016, The Seeds of Grace is a charitable organization run entirely by students in Edmonton, who are devoted to outreach and fellowship. As an officially registered Society in Alberta, The Seeds of Grace has faithfully served their community by serving meals, hosting fundraisers, and providing care-packages to those in need.
Whenever we talk about health, we’re often too quick to focus on medical assessments, medications, appointments, and tests, but the truth is that the well-being of an individual is more than just that. A holistic approach to care is one that considers every aspect of a person’s life, whether that be their mental, physical, or emotional needs. Sometimes, the biggest difference you can make in someone’s life is through offering a helping hand, and showing them that someone else cares about them too.
